RideSharing Coverage™ is for policyholders who use their personal vehicle to drive for transportation network companies (TNC) such as Uber and Lyft.
This endorsement provides coverage during the specific period of time when the driver has logged into the TNC’s application and is looking for a passenger but has not accepted a request for transportation and no passenger is occupying the vehicle. During this time, the driver is not covered by their insurance carrier and only minimally — if at all — by the TNC’s policy.
RideSharing Coverage works the same for vehicles used with food delivery apps like UberEats and DoorDash. The endorsement provides coverage during the specific period of time when the driver has logged into the application and is looking for a customer but has not yet accepted a request for delivery. Once the driver has accepted a delivery request, they are no longer provided coverage.
Vehicles used for occasional business errands or sales jobs are eligible for some carriers — but taxis, limousines and vehicles used for delivery of food, packages and other goods are ineligible. Vehicles with RideSharing Coverage™ are provided coverage during the period that the driver is using their rideshare or delivery app to find a passenger or customer, but that coverage no longer applies once the driver is matched with a job on the app.
